  • In 2015, the Food and Drug Administration has approved limited use of the powerful and frequently abused painkiller OxyContin for children as young as 11 years old. Opioids like OxyContin are extremely powerful and highly addictive and act on the brain like heroin.
  • Global Sanitation Issues- Every year, diarrheal diseases, associated to inadequate sanitation, are responsible for 1.5 million deaths. According to the World Health Organization, 2.5 billion lack access to hygienic sanitation facilities.
  • Currently, there are 34 million people in the world that are living with HIV/AIDs. According to the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS, out of the 35 million people living with aids, about 19 million of them do not know their positive status. Everyday, over 7,500 more people become infected with HIV.
  • Alzheimer’s disease is continuing to rise in the United States. It is the most common cause for dementia and the main cause of the Alzheimer’s is still unknown. It affects more than 5 million Americans every year; this number is expected to triple by 2050.
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that tobacco- and smoking-related deaths will increase from 5.1 million each year to 8.3 million each year by 2030 (which will be nearly 10 percent of all deaths globally).

  • On December 27th, Boko Harman extremists struck the northeastern Nigerian town, Maiduguri, will rocket-propelled grenades and multiple suicide bombers. At least 15 people were killed.
  • On December 25th, A tanker truck exploded outside an industrial plant in rural southeastern Nigeria, killing dozens of people who had lined up for gas to cook their Christmas meals. Local observers said that as many as 100 may have died.
  • On December 21st, all six of the American NATO service members were killed in a motorcycle bomb attack in Bagram, Afghanistan. The Taliban has claimed responsibility.
  • On December 21st, a 24-year-old woman intentionally drove her car onto a busy sidewalk along the Las Vegas Strip injuring 37 people and killed one person
  • On December 21st, a Secret Service agent’s gun, badge, radio, handcuffs and flash drive were stolen in broad daylight Monday near the agency’s headquarters in Washington, according to a police report and sources briefed on the incident. The agent’s belongings were taken from his personal vehicle.
  • As of December 22nd, more than a million people have now reached Europe through irregular means in 2015, the International Organisation for Migration has announced, in what constitutes the continent’s biggest wave of mass migration since the aftermath of the second world war.
  • On December 12th, at least 87 people were killed in clashes with the Burundi military in the capital of Bujumbura that began a day earlier, an army representative said Saturday. Four police officers and four soldiers were among the dead, while nine soldiers and 11 policemen were wounded.

Pray for the termination of gun violence and drug abuse in the United States

  • In Manchester, New Hampshire, the police department says it has witnessed some of the worst effects of the state’s heroin epidemic, with 75 overdose deaths so far this year. There have been more than 2,000 heroin incidents this year within the state so far this year. The state’s Office of the Chief Medical Examiner expects more than 400 deaths in 2015 across the state, double the number from 2013.
  • On December 21st, a grand jury has decided no felony crime was committed by the sheriff’s office or jailers in the treatment of Sandra Bland, a black woman who died in a south-east Texas county jail last summer.
    • Similarly on December 28th, a grand jury issued no indictment on a Chicago police officer who shot and killed Tamir Rice, a 12-year old African-American boy
  • According to the Washington Post, the police shot and killed 975 people in 2015 in the United States.

  • On December 21st, at least 91 people remained missing after a sea of red mud buried 33 buildings in China. According to Chinese state media, the landslide swamped 454,000 square yards of three industrial parks in the southern city of Shenzhen on Sunday, covering a number of low-rise buildings, factories, and homes

On December 2nd, hundreds of al Qaeda fighters seized tow major cities in Yemen after hours of clashes, part of the terror group’s effort to expand its presence in southern regions of the war-torn country. Al Qaeda has already destroyed the headquarters for the popular committees in Jaar and killed at least 4 senior popular committee commanders.

The Global Burden of Diseases and Injuries released its latest report about the frequency of global deaths by injury. In 2013, road injuries accounted for 1,396,000 deaths while self-harm accounted for 842,000 deaths.

 

Prayers for God to Remove All Sources of Health Problems in America and the Nations

  • The maternal mortality rate for American mothers has more than doubled in the past 25 years. It has changed from 7.1 deaths per 100,000 live births in 1987 to 17.8 deaths per 100,000 live births in 2011. This equates to about 60,000 deaths annually.
  • Islamic extremists are spreading a flesh-eating bug across war-torn Syria, according to health experts. The bug is being spread ISIS militants slaughtering innocent people and dumping their bodies in the street and thus increasing the rapid spread of Leishmaniasis (flesh-eating) disease.

  • On December 5th, three suicide attacks hat an island on Lake Chad, killing at least 27 people. The blasts, on the island of Koulfoua on the Chadian side of the lake, struck a weekly market. At least 80 others were injured in the blasts. No group has taken credit for the bombs. All three of the suicide bombers were female.
  • On December 4th, at least 16 people were killed after a restaurant was firebombed in Cairo early in the morning.
  • On December 2nd, a mass shooting of 14 people occurred during a holiday party for the San Bernardino County health department, where the gun assailant worked. An additional 14 people were injured. Both assailants were husband and wife and had pledged allegiance to ISIS. To put this into perspective, this is the 355th mass shooting this year (338 days).
  • On December 3rd in Chennai India, the heaviest rainfall in over a century inundated the town. At least 280 people are believed to have died as a result of the floods.
  • On December 1st, five people were injured in a subway blast in Istanbul, Turkey. The blast was caused by a bomb and the explosion’s cause is unknown and still under investigation.
  • On November 27th, a shooting and five-hour standoff with police occurred at a Planned Parenthood clinic in Colorado Springs, Colorado. A police officer and two civilians were killed; five police officers and four civilians were injured.
  • Update*- On December 7th, a senior leader of the al Qaeda-affiliated group Al-Shabaab in Somalia and the senior ISIS leader in Libya were each killed in recent U.S. military airstrikes.
