Brazil’s former leftist president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, has sealed an astonishing political comeback, beating the far-right incumbent Jair Bolsonaro in one of the most significant and bruising elections in the country’s history. Addressing journalists at a hotel in São Paulo, Lula vowed to reunify his country after a toxic race for power which has profoundly divided one of the world’s largest democracies.


Father, as this new president has taken office, Lord, we pray that You fill him with Your wisdom; surround him with people that will give him wise counsel and take away anyone that wants to advice otherwise (1 Kings 12:6–10).
