Prayer for God to Alleviate Health Concerns Worldwide


  • Two months after Liberia was declared free of Ebola, three confirmed cases of the deadly disease have emerged in the West African nation on Thursday.
  • Antimicrobial resistance is on the rise. Each year in the United States, at least 2 million people become infected with bacteria that are resistant to antibiotics and at least 23,000 people die as a direct result of these infections. Up to 50% of all the antibiotics prescribed for people are not needed or are not optimally effective as prescribed.
    • The “overuse” and “misuse” of antibiotics in animals and in people in largely to blame for antibiotic resistance. In 2012, most antibiotics in the United States weren’t sold to help humans. Some 80%, or 32.2 million pounds, of antimicrobial agents were for use with animals.
  • The number of children in the United States who have autism spectrum disorder has grown significantly. As of right now, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates a growing number of children, one in 68, are believed to have an autism spectrum disorder. That’s a 30% increase from estimates in 2012. In addition, autism spectrum disorder is almost 5 times more common among boys (1 in 42) than among girls (1 in 189).

  • Since the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting in 2012, there has been 142 school shootings in the United States. In 2015 alone, there has been 45 school shootings.
  • Current racial tensions at the University of Missouri. Two students were arrested for making terrorist threats that read “I’m going to shoot any black people tomorrow, so be ready.”
  • At Howard University, an anonymous death threat has been made against students at Howard University, according to a statement issued by the university on Thursday. The threat included things such as, ““After all, it’s not murder if they’re black.”
  • At Bowie State, hate crimes have been seen on campus. On Thursday morning, Bowie State University in Maryland found a swastika scrawled on a building named after a civil rights movement hero.

  • There is a high rise in gun and physical violence in the United States. As of 2015, there have been 46,058 gun violence incidents. This has caused 11, 589 Of these incidents, 1,654 are due to accident, 292 have been related to mass shootings, and about 3,000 of the deaths are children ages 0-17.
    • Gun death is the primary cause of death for African-Americans among the 15-24 years old age group.
  • Hospital mistakes and infections are still one of the leading causes of preventable deaths. Each year, approximately 200,000 Americans die from preventable medical errors including facility-acquired conditions and millions may experience errors. In 2008, medical errors cost the United States $19.5 billion.
